Pupil Leadership Team

Pupil Leadership Team

Our Pupil Leadership Team (PLT) is a democratically elected group of pupils who represent their peers, ensuring that all children's views are actively sought and heard.

We value the rights of all our pupils and believe that each child should play an active role in the continuing development of our school by making a positive contribution to our curriculum, our environment and our ethos, with positive benefits also felt by the wider community and within society.

At Gordon Primary School, elections are held during the first term of the new academic year. Following a class discussion with the teacher on the role of the PLT, children are invited to put themselves forward for nomination and give a short presentation to their class. The children then vote for their chosen peers. Each class elects a boy and a girl to represent them for the duration of the academic year.

The children are encouraged to be involved with the running of their school and the development of their curriculum and create action plans to identify what they need to do to affect change, raise awareness of issues and seek the opinions of their peers. This gives the children a feeling of ownership as they know their views are valued, discussed and acted upon.

They meet regularly with senior staff to develop their roles and also to develop the skills they need to be good and effective leaders.

Our PLT:

  • Enables pupils to make a positive contribution to their school
  • Helps to ensure that all children's voices are heard
  • Contributes to the school development plan
  • Supports every child to see themselves as worthwhile individuals with a right to be heard
  • Promote social skills, self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Demonstrate citizenship and model our British Values
  • Helps children to understand what it means to be an active citizen

The work of the PLT is shared in class, in assembly and through our school newsletter.

Our PLT for 2024-2025 is:
